Golden Elite of Eurounion Eurounion / The economy

The economy

Finland is the industrially-agrarian country. Northern arrangement of Finland imposes serious restrictions on development of the industry. Wood industry — is the main and most profitable sector of economy. During its development there was a displacement of accents from manufacture of wood and cellulose to manufacture of a paper, cardboard, building materials and furniture. There are 4/5 all woods of Finland in private hands, management of them is highly effective, and forest products (especially paper) — is the important part of export of the country.

Finland takes leading place in the world on manufacture of ice breakers, magnificent liners and other specialized courts, manufacture of the equipment for a pulp and paper industry.

The Finnish chemical industry not only completely satisfies all needs for mineral oil in a home market, but also works on export. In cities Turkus, Tampere, Vasa, Forssa, Huvinka operate cotton-mills. The biggest factory in Europe on manufacture of porcelain works in Helsinki. It is developed food industry (manufacture of alcoholic drinks and confectionery products), manufacture of building materials.

The climate of Finland interferes with development of plant growing. Arable lands are concentrated in southern and western areas of the country. Grain crops, mainly wheat, country is compelled to import, but forage crops exports. The animal industries are presented by a meat-and-milk direction. Pig farming, poultry farming and reindeer breeding remain one of the important directions of development of an agriculture, and the role of sheep breeding and beekeeping is insignificant. The great value has cultivation of fur animals. Practically all Finnish furs go on export. Value of fishery gradually decreases in economy of Finland, because of pollution of the rivers. Construction of dams and power stations reduces fishing of salmon and the country for more and more builds trouts of factories on cultivation of fish. In Baltic sea it is conducted trawler fishing (basically a herring). The craft of hare, elk, game is conducted.

Finland exports machines and the equipment, chemicals, iron, steel, wood, pulp-and-paper production. Imports — the foodstuffs, oil and mineral oil, chemicals, the transport equipment, iron and steel, textiles, grain. The basic trading partners are the EU countries, the USA, Russia, Japan.

Finland takes 6th place on standard of living (criteria: the general health, the standard of education, life expectancy and incomes) by estimations of the United Nations. Finland is considered one of the least corrupted countries in the world. It takes 1 place in the world by quantity of Internet users. Owing to this parameter, Finland has got in to «Guinness Book of Records». Other original record — in Finland is totaled nearby 1,5 million saunas, i.e. it is almost in each family.
